Android Market Music App: Pandora Internet Radio

| November 13, 2011 | 0 Comments

Most people love  music apps and the Android Market brings some great ones to us and, for the most part, for FREE.  Pandora Internet Radio has been at the top of the heap for a while now.

It makes sense that music apps would be so popular.  People love to listen to music during workouts, while working at their home desks, roaming around the house, sitting down to some wine and even at the office.  The problem was always the radio station.  They had too many ads and commercials and played songs by artists you didn’t like.

Internet radio changes all that.  Pandora has been a trailblazer.  I use it daily with limited issues. Let’s get down to the reviews and features! We’ll also some of the stuff being discussed on the Android Market by users.

Description:   Pandora can be downloaded directly from your phone or computer.  It works on either, as well, so if you have your laptop hooked up to speakers in your work area like I do then you can listen to it all day in the house.

The radio stations that Pandora creates for you are very personalized.  Just type in the name of an artist, song or composer (if you classical) and Pandora will create a station that plays it and others similar to it.  They do a good job here too.  Sometimes I like Jay-Z and Toby Keith, at other times I wanna’ hit some old school and wanna’ hear Will Smith.  So, I created a “Jay-Z”, “Toby Keith” and “Will Smith” stations.  The music is consistent and entertaining.

If I don’t like the song that Pandora chooses then I just hit the “skip” button and listen to the next one.  Be aware, you can only skip 6 songs an hour on any station.  It’s not that bad though, if that happens I just hit another station.  You can make similar stations and hear similar songs on them so don’t worry.  For instance, my Jay-Z channel and Kanye West channel play a lot of the same songs so I can go back and forth between them and not worry about the skip issue.

Pandora Limitations and Issues From The Android Market

Unless you are in 3G or 4G coverage it will have issues.  I live in Maryland and Massachusetts.  In Maryland I have no issues, but when I’m in the gym in Ma. the coverage is spotty where I’m at.  Sometimes Pandora won’t load at all and when it does I get about 20 seconds of a song before it buffers again.  That’s not really a Pandora issue but be aware.

Some of the stations, my Will Smith channel for instance, don’t have as many songs as others.  I can probably listen to that channel for an hour and a half before I start getting repeats.

The last update that hit the Android Market for Pandora broke it a little bit.  It would start and only play a snippet of the songs, then buffer and load another song.  It’s all good now, though, but if you see people complaining about that it’s now fixed.
