Android Market App, Phone and Tab Reviews

FlightTrack, Android Market Travel App

If you travel by air you’re going to want to check out the FlightTrack app on the Android Market.  Our favorite apps to review are the ones that have a basic and premium download-that is you can sample the app for FREE and then upgrade to the paid premium version if you like it.  FlightTrack is not one of those apps, but at $4.99 it is well worth any other app that is going right now on the Android Market.

The New York Times called the app “Brilliant” and it was rated #1 by the WSJ for its detailed and accurate coverage.  Mashable named it one of its 6 essential business travel apps. Live flight tracking is the way to go!

You no longer have to search airports for those status boards telling you when and if your flight is on time or delayed, or to search for the right gates.  FlightTrack appealed to us even more during the busy holiday travel season, but if you travel by air at any time during the year then this app is essential.

Features of the Android Market Travel App, FlightTrack include:

• Real-time status for cancellation, delays and gate location/information
• Information on more than 4,000 airports worldwide
• Complete coverage of international flights, More than 1,400 airlines
• Find alternate flights at a tap• Home screen widget lets you track flights when app isn’t open
• Detailed flight delay forecasts to help you predict travel disruptions
• Share flight status by email, Facebook, Twitter or any other messaging application on your phone.  (We don’t like this, both for security and privacy issues)
• View your seat in SeatGuru’s airplane seating maps
• Add flight notes for seat numbers, confirmation numbers and more
• Zoomable, live flight tracker maps with satellite and weather radar imagery
• Check weather information, radar and forecasts
• Airtime, aircraft, and speed & altitude (US only)  Charter flights are currently not included in the apps coverage

FlightTrack has received a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on the Android Market Review section with 2,752 reviews as of this publication.

Reviews from some FlightTrack Users:

“Thanks for the great app…use it all the time for my trips and to track friends and family traveling.”

“Not a super critical app, but VERY cool and well done. Nice job!”

Final Analysis:

True, FlightTrack is NOT a super critical app-but damn if it isn’t one of the most convenient we have used.  We downloaded it and headed to Logan International Airport in Boston, Ma. so we could test its real time accuracy.  It was spot on.  Well worth the $4.99 and essential to business and frequent travelers.  Best used in conjunction with other travel apps such as TripAdvisor for local travel and destination information.

FlightTrack is an amazing app and it’s saved my sanity on more than one occasion. Like many business travelers, I make my living high in the sky on a frequent basis. One particular trip I had an unscheduled trip and right from the beginning everything was going wrong. Barely making it to the airport on time I got to my flight but the flight was delayed causing me to miss my connection. FlightTrack was there to save the day and I was able to book another flight to get to my meeting with the rest of my Dish team on schedule. Most would be so stressed they would be stir crazy but I do carry an app for that too. In those cases I usually bust out my Dish Remote Access app that I have on my Android since it gives me access to all my programming and especially my movies at home on my DVR. I would make never to leave home without my FlightTrack as I’m sure it will save my sanity again in the future.
