Four New Colours Available for the Galaxy S3

Samsung has announced that it will soon be launching four new colours for the popular Galaxy S3, with an additional choice of sapphire black, garnet red, titanium grey and amber brown.

The Galaxy S3 was launched earlier this year in a choice of pebble blue and marble white. With over ten million people reserving the phone before its release it has become the most pre-ordered gadget in history and easily the biggest selling smartphone of 2012 so far. Although Samsung knew the phone would sell well they were not expecting it to be quite so popular and initially experienced a shortage of the pebble blue Galaxy S3s due to problems in producing the paint.

White has become a fairly common colour for manufacturers to adopt for phones due to the popularity of white iPhones but it struck many people as odd that Samsung chose to release the Galaxy S3 in blue rather than the more standard black.

Sapphire Black: With 64GB

At the time of the release Samsung promised that a black version would be released later in the year but didn’t provide an exact date. Since that time, this black version has been spotted on Samsung’s Facebook page and a more definite release date has emerged. The black Galaxy S3 is already available to pre-order from some online retailers with a likely release date of early October.

Rather than simply getting a new paint job this black Galaxy S3 will come with a few improvements, most notably an increased 64GB internal storage. There is some speculation that the black Galaxy S3 has been timed to release shortly after the iPhone 5 in order to revamp the bestselling Android during what will be an inevitable sales slump. It is unclear if this is truly the case but either way it is nice to see the S3 get a revamp.

Garnet Red: No Longer Exclusive to AT&T

Recently Samsung also released a “garnet” red version of the Galaxy S3 exclusively for AT&T in the United States. It has now been announced that this red version will become available on other carriers and in other markets shortly, along with two other colours to be released soon. The red Galaxy S3 has just become available in the UK although the other colours have not yet made an appearance.

The additional two colours should bring the total choice of colours for the Galaxy S3 to six: the original pebble blue and marble white, as well as sapphire black, garnet red, titanium grey and amber brown. The red Galaxy S3 that is currently available does not appear to be different to the existing blue and white versions, and it is unclear if the titanium grey or amber brown versions will come with memory increases like the sapphire black.

The new colours should become available to most consumers within the coming month and be offered at a similar price to the existing blue and white Samsung Galaxy S3s.
